Mark 8:22-26
"22 And He cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto Him, and besought Him to touch him.
23 And He took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when He had spit on his eyes, and put His hands upon him, He asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put His hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And He sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town."
In today's verses Jesus heals a blind man at Bethsaida in two stages. First the man sees people “like trees, walking”; then Jesus lays hands on him again, restoring full sight. This is the only two-stage miracle recorded in the Gospels; and it appears only in Mark.
Key Interpretations:
Symbolic Parable: Many scholars see the gradual healing as a living parable of the disciples’ spiritual growth, their understanding of Jesus as the Christ was coming into focus step by step.
Progressive Sanctification: The miracle pictures how spiritual sight often moves from partial and blurry perception to clear vision over time.
Contextual Significance: Placed between Jesus’ rebuke of the disciples’ lack of faith and Peter’s confession, the healing highlights the gap between their limited sight and Jesus’ full identity.
Secrecy: Jesus sends the man home without returning to the village, likely to avoid Bethsaida’s unbelief and to focus on teaching His inner circle.
Are there areas of your faith where your “vision” is still blurry?
Pray; Holy Ghost, please help me see with eyes of faith! 🙏
