Luke 12:35-37
"35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them."
Yesterday we finished the Parable of the Persistent Widow, where Jesus taught His disciples to always pray and not lose heart. The challenge is clear: trust God, pray faithfully through the wait, and persist without growing weary.
A similar theme continues today with the Parable of the Watchful Servants. Jesus calls us to stay constantly ready for His return.
"Be dressed for service" (or "loins girded"): Be prepared and active, like a servant tucking robes into a belt for work.
"Keep your lamps burning": Symbolizes spiritual vigilance—filled with the Holy Spirit and alert, lights on, ready for the master’s return from the wedding feast at any hour.
Those found watching are blessed. The master’s response is astonishing: He girds Himself for service, seats them at the table, and serves them. This role reversal—Master serving servants—reveals God’s extraordinary grace and the profound reward for faithful anticipation of Christ’s return.
Hallelujah!
