Luke 10:41
"And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:"
"Help me!" Martha said. She felt put upon. She has a whole bunch of people visiting her home along with JESUS! AND! Her sister is not helping her with the "hospitality." Martha felt overwhelmed by her responsibilities.
Martha's frustration may reveal a deeper desire to be acknowledged and recognized for her efforts in serving Jesus. Her plea to Jesus to intervene suggests a sense of entitlement and a desire for recognition. This serves as a powerful reminder that discipleship is not about seeking validation or recognition for our actions but about wholehearted devotion and service to God and often SACRIFICE.
We want to be careful that we don't become too consumed by the demands of "hospitality," which can distract us from spiritual growth and devotion. We need to examine our priorities and reevaluate where we invest our time and energy. It serves as a reminder that while acts of service and hospitality are important, they should not come at the expense of our spiritual well-being and connection with Jesus.
