Romans 12:1
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."
As Paul writes to the Romans, he wants them to know that EVERYTHING comes from God, through God, and is directed to God, and that all glory belongs to GOD forever. Paul said "ALL THINGS." Additionally, Paul clearly established that God's thoughts and ways are beyond human comprehension. And, God is not indebted to anyone and operates freely in His will and grace.
And, immediately following these assertions, Paul has recommendations for the Romans. And by extension, you and me. In today's verse, Paul uses the imagery of a sacrifice to emphasize the complete dedication of one's life to God. Unlike animal sacrifices that die, a living sacrifice continues to live and serve God daily. This offering is not to earn salvation but to be a response of gratitude and commitment to God's mercies.
