know what you ask for

Matthew 20:22
"But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able."

These are some "RIDE OR DIE" guys! They want to go the distance for their Rabbi. Their mother came to Jesus pridefully asking for HER sons to receive the highest of honors, the loftyist positions in Jesus's "royal court." Her eyes seem to be filled with thoughts of pomp and grandeur! She wants her boys to be successful. She doesn't understand what Jesus has been teaching. She doesn't understand what Jesus has been doing.

Jesus knows this. "Ye know not what ye ask." Her response is oblivious to Jesus's coming arrest, torture and crucifixion. She can't be asking for her boys to go through that! That is not what she wants. When Jesus asked her "What is it you want?" If Jesus were to ask you this question would you have an answer? Would you ask for a successful life? Would you ask for something for yourself right now? Would you want something that made life better in five years? Would you want something that made you feel successful at the end of your life? It's a hard question. Jesus wants you to dig deep. You don't have to answer right now. Think about it.

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
