Luke 19:39-40
"39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto Him, Master, rebuke Thy disciples.
40 And He answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."
The celebratory crowd shouted "HOSANNA!" And, rejoiced and praised God with such a loud voice it got everyone's attention. The spirit of the crowd would have been contagious with joy and gladness, and with thanksgiving to God! Their praise and worship irritated the Pharisees. In today's verses they order Jesus, "Master, rebuke Thy disciples." In their eyes they had gotten out of hand.
Jesus's answer tells them all we need to know. "I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out." The coming of the Messiah is such a momentous and joyful event that it must not be suppressed. In fact, all creation can and will celebrate when our Savior returns!
