Luke 23:13&14
"13 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined Him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse Him:"
On Palm Sunday, the celebratory crowd shouted "HOSANNA!" And, rejoiced and praised God with such a loud voice it got everyone's attention. Their praise and worship irritated the Pharisees. They plot and plan on how to deal with the "Jesus of Nazareth." Who embarrassed them and undermined their authority.
Jesus and His Disciples have their Last Supper together. Where Jesus gives His followers the practice of Holy Communion. They then adjourn to the Garden of Gethsemane. Where Jesus is betrayed and arrested by the Jewish chief priests. They have a trial of sorts, finding Him guilty. They send Him to Herod, who sends Him to Pilate.
In today's verses we begin to see Pilate's response. "And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined Him before you, have found NO FAULT in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse Him:" Pilate, a well reasoned and well-educated Roman governor cannot perceive any charge proved against Him. Or any crime He is guilty of, for which punishment should be inflicted on Him. Least of all, that He should be put to DEATH!
