Luke 10:38
"Now it came to pass, as they went, that He entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received Him into her house."
This week we will study the famous sisters from the Gospel events; Mary and Martha. Jesus's ministry is in full swing. A lot is happening before the eyes and ears of the Disciples. What we read about in the Gospel record is the fulfillment of prophecy. Jesus's birth and life. The doctrine that Jesus taught and the miracles He performed. All of this is PRICELESS.
It's a gift from GOD!
Luke is protecting the details of this family that was friends with our Lord and Savior. From the other Gospel accounts we know this is the sister of Lazarus, who Jesus will raise from the dead. And, we know this village is Bethany, not very far away from Jerusalem. We perceive that "Martha" was the mistress of the house. Possibly she was a widow, and her brother Lazarus and younger sister Mary lived with her. Martha welcomed Jesus and His Disciples into her home. Her expression of Middle Eastern hospitality would have included a meal. And, we can imagine that there would be more people in the home and trying to get into the home than any of us would be comfortable with...
