Acts 9:3-9
"3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:"
We are studying the event of GOD calling Saul who the Apostles and the rest of the Jesus followers DID NOT LIKE! They had VERY good reasons to not like him. Saul was hunting Christians. He was there when Stephen was martyred. He may have done even worse. At this time Saul is on his way to Damascus to hunt down men and women who are Christians and arrest them and haul them back to Jerusalem. It's not something we like to think about; God pursues those we don't like. God offers His Grace and Mercy to those who are hard to love; the mean and destructive people. The arms of God's grace reaches all sinners. Even enemies of the church. Like SAUL.
Today's verses, Jesus stopped Saul in his tracks; "...suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I AM JESUS whom thou persecutest:" Saul is blinded by the light and cowering on the ground. He knows what he would do to someone trying to destroy his mission. Saul fears the worst and asks; "what do you want from me?" Jesus gives him directions to go into nearby Damascus. He was now blind and has to be lead by the hand. There he sat for three days not eating or drinking. No sight, wondering what will become of him. The hunter is caught and helpless.
