Matthew 7:27-29
"27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at His doctrine:
29 For He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes."
Here in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is teaching, He has established a repeat pattern of "hear My sayings..." listening and learning from Jesus is important. (Dah!) Building you life on GOD'S principles is the only way to survive the storms of life. As we read in today's verses; "great was the fall of it." The storm will destroy every life not build on the foundation of FAITH in our Lord and Savior.
The scribes of the day would reference by name interpreters of the Law. As a rule, the scribe hardly ever gave his exposition without at least beginning by what had been said by Rabbi "so and so." Jesus amazed the people by speaking to them as One who has a direct message from God. He spoke as the king, and not the scribe.
Even these challenges are part of GOD'S PLAN. Our fall was our own choice and our redemption was GOD'S choice! We don't plan to fail, but we do fail to plan. When we are doing good we plan. We might even think of it as "MY PLAN." But, in reality it's the Lord that is in charge of everything!
