Mark 14:70-72
"70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny Me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept."
Ask yourself; the people that see you and interact with you, would they say "THIS IS ONE OF THEM." Would they point the finger at you for being a Christian??? As bad as Peter's denial is, at least he did live and act in such a way that people associated him with our Lord and Savior. While Jesus knew this would happen it is a total surprise to Peter. He thought he was better than this.
"...HE WEPT."
Does this moment make Peter a failure?
No. This just revealed that he was just another person capable of failure. FAILURE! He is capable of great things too! We can and should aspire to be more like Peter. Peter's story does not end here. He goes on to do MANY more GREAT things and he makes some more mistakes along the way.
To Be More Like The Apostle Peter:
AIM HIGH
Be bold. We want to be unfailing. We want to be strong. We want to have a good day. Rejoice in God. Stand firm. Declare that you will do well. We have every reason to be positive and enthusiastic!
EXPECT PRESSURE
Peer pressure can be intense, others will try to hold you back. Some will temp you to fail. Situations will cause you to look for ways to change your promise or morals. It can all seem like a conspiracy to make you fail. When you are vulnerable and when you feel like you are on top of the world; the pressure will be intense.
WE WILL FAIL
We might prevail sometime but other times we will fail. We will come up short. Peter was bold and faithful many times and then when the pressure was on he failed. This is the nature of life. You wine some and you lose some.
REPENTANCE RENEWS US
Peter remembered Jesus words and WEPT. He realized his sin. He was regretful. He repented. He was was forgiven. Jesus double crossed sin, death and the devil. JESUS sabotaged the Devil's plans. Jesus was faithful. And is faithful. Always. Even when Peter and others let Jesus down; Jesus did not let them down. Jesus is there for you and me too!
