2 Peter 2:20-22
"20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
BEWARE!!!
This week have studied the wonderful and incomprehensible work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ coming into our world in the flash, as a regular person to be sacrificed on the cross for all of our sins; all the things we messed up royally. Then we read from the Psalms when King David asks for forgiveness in his heartfelt and timeless words. With the expression of wanting to share this Good News with others. We know they NEED GOD too!
They need to be aware, and we do too, the warning in today's verses from Second Peter chapter two. While it is GREAT to "...escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is WORSE with them than the beginning." Getting our of the gutter of our pop culture and mainstream media is WONDERFUL! BUT, back sliding into the gutter again will earn us contempt from the one who never left and sorrow from Christian family and friends who watch us falter.
As the verse explain; "For it had been better for them NOT to have KNOWN the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the HOLY COMMANDMENT delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire." This is such a vivid and pitiful picture of the poor beast who cannot help themselves from their own repulsive habits. And, unfortunately, it an accurate picture of human nature to not be able to help themselves. We need the help of the Holy Ghost. We need the help of our Christian sisters and brothers. We need what the church offers us.
Come home.
Please join us at one of the oldest Lutheran Churches in the region! It is beautiful! An old stone building with vibrant stained glass everywhere you look. And, ornately carved wood altar and flying pulpit! It is an amazing sight to behold. And, the people are VERY friendly and welcoming. The Pastor's are outstanding and outgoing. We look forward to seeing you in worship.
