This is our plan for the best faith journey with Jesus. We studied this for many weeks, and this week we reviewed the Great Commission. We always focus on His command to make disciples of all nations. Also in these verses is the promise of His continuous presence until the end of the world. This is not to be taken lightly.
Today we turn to the verse widely considered the central theme of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans, declaring that he is not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. The verse emphasizes that this salvation is available to everyone, with a specific historical priority given to the Jew first and also to the Greek (Gentile), highlighting both the inclusive scope of God’s offer and the sequential unfolding of His plan.
This sets up the concept (developed in verse 17) that the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel, showing that the righteous live by faith from start to finish.
Tomorrow’s verse (Romans 1:17), “The righteous shall live by faith,” became the single most important verse in Luther’s theological breakthrough and the seed of the entire Reformation, which began on October 31, 1517, the eve of All Saints’ Day. Reformation Day is now celebrated by Lutherans and many Protestants; 2026 marks the 509th anniversary.
