closer to God

Matthew 6:10
"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."

I encourage you to pray the Lord’s Prayer at least once a day, or more often if you feel led. Sometimes a line of the prayer will land with unexpected force as it touches a need in your life. Give it a try and see if it helps your faith walk too.

Note: the “goal” of praying once a day is not about achievement. It is about love for God. God wants your heart oriented toward Him. He will change your heart and mind. The point is to learn to draw closer to God.

Today’s verse is from the Lord’s Prayer in the Sermon on the Mount. It is a dual petition: for the establishment of God’s sovereign rule, and for the alignment of human life with His purpose.

Thy Kingdom Come
This phrase expresses a longing for God’s reign to be made tangible in the world. It acknowledges His sovereignty and asks that the Kingdom of Heaven displace lesser powers, so that justice, peace, and love govern both the lives of believers and the world at large. It looks ahead to a future fulfillment, and it also calls believers to live now in a way that reflects those heavenly values.

Thy Will Be Done
This part emphasizes submission to God’s authority and the surrender of personal desires. It asks that God’s perfect will, already done in heaven, be carried out on earth with the same readiness and obedience. That includes recognizing our fallibility and asking for spiritual transformation, so that individuals and communities take part in God’s plan by turning from sin and embracing righteousness.

2 Kings 14:25 "He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of His servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher." We’re continuing our series on God’s calling of His people. Last week we saw how God transformed the Apostle Paul—from zealous enemy to greatest champion. A clear theme is emerging: those God calls often start with reluctance. This week we meet one of the most famous reluctant prophets, Jonah. Jonah’s first recorded prophecy appears in 2 Kings 14:25.
