Esther 8:15-17
"15 And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.
16 The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.
17 And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them."
Mordecai had urged Queen Esther to approach King Xerxes and plead for the Jews facing annihilation under Haman’s decree. God had placed her in the palace “for such a time as this.” Aware she could be put to death for entering the king’s presence uninvited, Esther declared, “I will go to the king, though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” She fully surrendered to God and risked everything for her people.
What followed was a complete reversal. After Esther’s courageous intervention, fasting, exposing Haman (who was executed on the gallows he built), and securing a new decree, the Jews went from threatened destruction to victory and celebration. Mordecai was honored, the people had light, joy, and safety, and many others joined the Jewish people out of respect and fear.
Application
You are called. God has a mission for you. It may not be as dramatic or dangerous as Esther’s, but it is no less important. Whether raising children, serving your church, or blessing your community, your obedience and faithfulness can make an eternal difference in the lives of others.
Amen.
