Ephesians 2:7-10
"7 That in the ages to come He might shew the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
The cross: God’s blazing power and the most beautiful emblem of freedom and salvation; our greatest reason for unending thanks and praise!
Once spiritually dead, we have been made alive with Christ by God’s rich mercy and great love. By grace alone He has raised us up and seated us with Him in the heavenly places; more than forgiven, we are exalted, sharing Christ’s victory, authority, and honored place at the Father’s right hand.
In saving us, God puts the immeasurable riches of His grace and kindness on full display, not only now but throughout the ages to come. Salvation is received through faith; this faith itself is God’s gift, not something we produce. Today’s verses make it crystal clear: salvation is in no way based on works, so that no one may boast. Everything (grace, faith, redemption) comes from God alone.
Yet we are His workmanship, created anew in Christ Jesus for good works that He prepared beforehand for us to walk in. Good works are not the root of our salvation but the fruit; they flow naturally from lives transformed by grace and fulfill the purpose for which God remade us.
Amen.
