Mark 6:41-44
"41 And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, He looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided He among them all.
42 And they did all eat, and were filled.
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
44 And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men."

This has been a VERY long day for the Disciples. After returning from a long day of evangelism work. They had not eaten and needed to GET AWAY. The crowds were so numerous that they overwhelmed the disciples. By now they were getting hangry! The Disciples think sending the crowds of people away is the solution.

Jesus thinks otherwise. He tells His Disciples to feed the multitudes! They refuse. It's an impossible task. This crowd is over five thousand people. We estimate it would take around $16,000 in today's dollars. It was a lot.

In today's verses we read how Jesus takes care of it! Two fishes and five loaves are divided up and distributed to the more than five thousand people there!!! Everyone ate till they were full. (The origin of the all-you-can-eat buffet.) And, when they were done they had LEFTOVERS!?!?! Twelve baskets full!!! This is a miracle that has us amazed to this day!

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
