Acts 1:4&5
"4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith He, ye have heard of Me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence."
WAIT.
Wait is the order of the day.
The book of Acts begins with Luke addressing a person named "Theophilus." This means "lover of God." While this was a specific person at the time of Luke's writing, it's also nice that we could ALL be named "lover of God."
Next, Luke references his Gospel. It is a prequel to the book of Acts. In this Gospel we read the record of Jesus telling His Disciples God's plan many times. And they just didn't believe it. Then it happened, and they were at a loss of what to do next.
In the garden, Peter cuts off an ear. Not something Jesus taught him. The others ran and hid. Peter followed at a safe distance. In the courtyard, Peter denied Jesus. Not what he was taught, and not what he planned to do. Jesus told His followers that He would be raised on the 3rd day. The women went on the 3rd day with all the supplies to anoint a dead body. They did not find Jesus's body there. When the men hear about the resurrection, they go to check for themselves. There were more doubters than just Thomas. After this, the Disciples hide behind locked doors. They can't do it on their own. They need help.
Before His ascension into heaven, Jesus appeared to His disciples over a period of forty days, providing them with many convincing proofs that He was indeed alive. During this time, Jesus spoke to them about the kingdom of God, continuing the theme He introduced early in His ministry.
This forty-day period described in Acts one marks a crucial phase where Jesus prepared His disciples for the mission ahead. In today's verse, Jesus ordered them to "WAIT." Wait until they are Baptized by the Holy Ghost!
