Acts 1:8&9
"8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight."
As they lived through the experience of Jesus's resurrection, the Disciples didn't understand. I don't think anyone could. It's incomprehensible! As Luke recorded for us, they all had failings and did not do what they hoped they would do.
The event we are reading this week is Jesus's farewell message to His Disciples. He has ordered them to WAIT. Wait until they are Baptized by the Holy Ghost! This is great advice for all Christians. We should not delude ourselves and expect to become princes or grand successful celebrities. We don't know what GOD has planned for us. God's plans and timing are sovereign and beyond human control. We need to trust in God's sovereignty and focus on our role in His plan. And, that might be a humble role that can only be fulfilled by faithfulness.
With today's verses, Jesus flew away from His Disciples. Leaving them to WAIT for the promised baptism by the Holy Ghost!
