John 21:17
"17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time, Lovest thou Me? And he said unto Him, Lord, Thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed My sheep."
Jesus has appeared a third time to His Disciples after His resurrection. This time to help repair and heal the hurt that His Disciple Peter has gone through. Peter had denied he knew Jesus three times before sunrise when Jesus was on trial. Jesus has recreated the sights, sounds, aromas and feelings of the event, just so Peter respond in a better way.
This repetition of the question by Jesus and the response by Peter is significant because it parallels the three times Peter denied Jesus. It serves as a moment of repentance and restoration for Peter, as Jesus reaffirms Peter's role in leading and caring for the flock, instructing him to "feed my sheep".
The use of the same word for love in Jesus' third question and Peter's response highlights the sincerity and depth of Peter's love for Jesus, emphasizing the restoration of their relationship.
