terrifying

Mark 16:4&5
"4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted."

"Send me an angel." We might say. When people encounter angels in the Holy Bible it's usually VERY frightening! These women are demonstrating their devotion and care for Jesus even after his death by showing up to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus.

These women remained steadfast while the male disciples had fled out of fear. They continue to support Jesus even AFTER His death. They have shown up and are not sure if they can open the tomb. They are going to figure it out as they go. And, now they meet a messenger from God and it's terrifying!

Luke 1:51-53 "51 He hath shewed strength with His arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away." This is Mary's Magnificat. Beginning with verse forty-six Mary's responds to Elizabeth’s blessing is EPIC! In this poem Mary praises GOD for His blessing to her and His faithfulness to Israel.  Mary's Magnificat also highlights a series of reversals in which the proud are humbled and the humble are exalted! Which we read in today's verses; "He hath shewed STRENGTH with His arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
