expectations

1 John 5:3&4
"3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."

It's not an incongruous idea that loving God involves obeying His commands, and that these commands are not meant to be oppressive but are a blessing for those of us who know God! Here in John's letter we understand that obedience to God's commands is a necessary expression of love. Obedience is not a way to earn salvation but is the expected result of being a child of God.

Luke 1:51-53 "51 He hath shewed strength with His arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away." This is Mary's Magnificat. Beginning with verse forty-six Mary's responds to Elizabeth’s blessing is EPIC! In this poem Mary praises GOD for His blessing to her and His faithfulness to Israel.  Mary's Magnificat also highlights a series of reversals in which the proud are humbled and the humble are exalted!
