Acts 2:41
"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."

We continue to study Pentecost. The miraculous occasion that spread the Gospel message like wildfire. Jewish pilgrims from all over the Roman Empire and places beyond were in Jerusalem for festivals. They were hearing about the resurrection and ascension of Jesus. Then they heard a Holy Ghost-inspired sermon.

In today's verse we read the RESULTS! Note that it does not say that EVERYONE who heard the sermon became a believer. It says "...they that GLADLY received his word were baptized." Jesus's gift of salvation is for everyone. But not everyone GLADLY receives the gift of FAITH.

We believe that the fledgling Christian Church in Jerusalem would have had about 120 members. A respectable number for a BRAND-NEW Church. On this first Pentecost Sunday they had a crowd in attendance that would make our best Christmas and Easter services seem small. Because of the Holy Ghost, 3,000 of the visitors were Baptized and became Christians! Incredible RESULTS! And now the real work begins...

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
