Colossians 1:15&16
"15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him:"
"BY HIM, and FOR HIM:"
In this letter, the Apostle Paul addresses the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ. He wrote this letter to counter the false teachings that were infiltrating the church in Colossae. The false teachings included elements of Jewish legalism, Greek philosophy, and mysticism, which undermined the central role of Christ as the head of the church and the divine mediator between God and humanity. (Good thing we don't have these problems today! 😉)
It's yet another place in Holy Scriptures where the divinity and sovereignty of Jesus Christ is declared. Here emphasis is made that Jesus is the supreme creator and sustainer of the universe, and it conveys the message that everything ultimately exists for His glory and purpose. Something we all too often lose sight of.
This Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we can also experience the Father, and through faith in Jesus, we can have a direct relationship with God. All year we need to celebrate and glorify our Lord and Savior! Who will come again!
