pitiful contribution

Mark 14:41
"And He cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners."

"The Third Time!"
Peter, James and John, Jesus's inner circle. They could NOT stay awake to watch and pray for their friend and teacher. This is almost the only personal request He is ever recorded as having made. And, His inner circle let Him down. This has to hurt Jesus.

As disturbing as this is, we do need to admit that we all let Jesus down. We all veer off from God's plan. We need to pray that we will not fall into temptation. Even when we might be overwhelmed by our part in God's plan, we will need friends to stay close and pray with us.

When things seem to be going all wrong, like here when "the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners." God is still in control. If we "fall asleep" and let Jesus down, God will use our pitiful contribution for His will to be done.

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
