how is this glorifying?

John 12:23
"And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified."

We continue to study the questions that Jesus asked. This week's question will take us to the heart of what it means to glorify GOD. Yesterday we read from the book of Ecclesiastes. Written approximately three thousand years ago by King Solomon. Even back then, people knew "the whole duty of man" was to "Fear God, and keep His commandments."

We also looked at the way the Westminster Shorter Catechism says it, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.” When people think of "GLORY" today, we perceive that someone is at the top of their game. Maybe even champions! Definitions say "Great honor, praise, or distinction accorded by common consent; renown." Is this what GOD means? 

In today's verse, Jesus said "The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified." Jesus is on His way to the cross. Where He is tortured and killed. The death and resurrection is the reason Jesus became incarnate. How is this brutality Glorifying God???

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
