Mark 14:37&38
"37 And He cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak."
"couldest not thou watch one hour?" ONE HOUR! Peter, James and John, His inner circle. They could NOT watch for one hour. Jesus wanted nothing more than a little human sympathy, companionship. This is almost the only personal request He is ever recorded as having made. And, His inner circle let Him down.
The anticipation of the great suffering He will face is weighing heavily on Him. Jesus is fervently praying, His Disciples should be too. They don't know God's plan the way Jesus does, but still, they can see the stress He is under. Jesus asked His Father for there to be another way. A moment where His human side is showing through. He confirms this in today's verses, "The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak."
The Disciples were very tired. They could NOT stay awake. They let Jesus down. Jesus found His Disciples sleeping. When He asked them to watch, one thing.
