Luke 15:4
"What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?"
Jesus attracted an audience that is sinners, traitors, Pharisees and scribes. A volatile mix of people. Some look to Him for salvation. Some are looking to discredit Him, maybe even arrest Him.
Today's verse is the start of Jesus's parable for this audience. This is a brilliant technique because believers will pick up on the spiritual truths but the people hostile to Jesus's teaching will not understand. In today's verse, Jesus asks "Will you search for ONE lost sheep?"
It's a GREAT question. 1 out of 100 is NOT significant. We are often very happy with 99 of 100. 1% loss is not much. "Will you search for ONE lost sheep?"
