cognitive dissonance

John 10:25&26
"25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?"

Martha is confronting Jesus when He shows up four days after the death of His friend, her brother, Lazarus. In today's verses, Jesus asked Martha "DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?" And, she answered "Yea, Lord: I believe that Thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world."

As we are studying the questions Jesus asked. This week's question gets to the point of it all: "What do you believe?" Martha is in a particularly hard situation, being four days into the grief of the death of her brother. AND the cognitive dissonance of knowing Jesus could save her brother but didn't! In this interaction we witness her affirming her FAITH in Jesus. Jesus has conquered sin and death. Martha, Mary and everyone present are about to witness a mind-blowing miracle!

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
