Matthew 6:33&34
"33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
All of Jesus's questions were to make the point outlined in today's verses. You ARE MORE valuable than birds and flowers! (Obviously!) Jesus has you in the palm of my hand. We do not gain anything by worrying. We need to rely on the love and wisdom of our Father in Heaven. "...all these things shall be added unto you."
"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." This is MORE than the pious Christian's "carpe diem" or “make the most of the present.” We are not forbidden to question our future. We are charged with learning to TRUST GOD and that He has our inevitable fate secured. We can look forward to the future calmly. We need to focus on our present situation and any troubling situation that arises. We need to focus on avoiding pitfalls that will lead us into sin. Angry words said in frustration. Kind words said to comfort but actually compromise God's plan. Momentary lapse of judgment. Failure to take responsibility. And, in many other ways, we fail to live up to our calling from GOD. These kinds of things are MORE than enough for us to take on, with the help of JESUS! We need to trust our Lord and Savior MUCH MORE.
