buy your own bread

Mark 6:35&36
"35 And when the day was now far spent, His disciples came unto Him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
36 Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat."

We are studying Jesus's questions all summer long! We have returned to the Gospel of Mark. For one of the most famous moments in His ministry, feeding the five thousand! Jesus's fame has gone viral at this point. Wherever He goes, huge crowds follow. Jesus has COMPASSION for random people coming out to hear Him preach. Our GOD wants us with Him! Our GOD cares.

In today's verses, we read that His Disciples "CARE" too! "And when the day was now far spent, His disciples came unto Him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed: Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and BUY THEMSELVES BREAD: for they have nothing to eat." This an interesting and authentic moment. The Disciples come to Jesus with a problem AND a solution. Don't we often treat GOD this way? We want to solve our own problems. We would do much better if we came to GOD open to His plan and solution for our lives.

Luke 1:51-53 "51 He hath shewed strength with His arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away." This is Mary's Magnificat. Beginning with verse forty-six Mary's responds to Elizabeth’s blessing is EPIC! In this poem Mary praises GOD for His blessing to her and His faithfulness to Israel.  Mary's Magnificat also highlights a series of reversals in which the proud are humbled and the humble are exalted!
