Acts 8:2-4
"2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word."

Saul, who becomes Paul, was at the very least an accomplice when Stephen, the first martyr, was killed. In today's verses we read that Saul "made havock." Stephen went to be with our Lord and Savior. Devout Christians mourned him and have been mourning martyrs ever since. (Nearly 5 thousand last year alone.)

The silver lining to this very dark cloud... "Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word." Persecution motivated Christians to leave their homes and go "abroad." This helped spread the Gospel message. When we move, we take many things with us. Clothes, toothbrush, pillows, sheets, blankets, food, and more! We also take the word of God with us. The Holy Ghost comes with us too, guiding us and helping us. Praise the Lord!

Luke 1:51-53 "51 He hath shewed strength with His arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away." This is Mary's Magnificat. Beginning with verse forty-six Mary's responds to Elizabeth’s blessing is EPIC! In this poem Mary praises GOD for His blessing to her and His faithfulness to Israel.  Mary's Magnificat also highlights a series of reversals in which the proud are humbled and the humble are exalted!
