John 1:1-3
"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made."
This week we are studying Jesus being the Light of the world. Jesus was very blunt when teaching His Disciples. He said, "In the world ye shall have TRIBULATION:" Followers of Jesus are going to experience great trouble or suffering. It's true. It seems the stronger the FAITH the more troubles one experiences. We can take courage from the rest of the verse, "but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Jesus wins in the end! And His followers will share in that victory!
With Jesus's ultimate victory in mind, it makes the celebration of His birth even more meaningful. As we ponder that precious baby in the manger, we also need to remember the Holy Trinity. Specifically, Jesus was around before the Virgin Birth! It is very eloquently explained in the first verses of the Gospel of John. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was NOT ANY THING made that was made." John puts Jesus there at the creation of the universe! Plainly saying that Jesus is GOD. Keeping this in mind when thinking about the swaddling baby in Mary and Joseph's arms makes it all that MORE INCREDIBLE!
