1 Thessalonians 5:4
"But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief."
Last week, we studied HOPE based on GOD'S LOVE for us! This HOPE inspires us live a life of "moderation." Christians need to stand in contrast with lives that demonstrate self-control. We need to exercise restraint and avoid extremes. We need to come to GOD in submission, with sincerity and intense conviction. And, most of all, we need to be thankful for all He has given us.
This HOPE ENCOURAGES us. This week we turn to Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians. Specifically a section where he is ENCOURAGING them; "But ye, brethren, are not in darkness," Christians are living in the light, "darkness" is a metaphor for sin, ignorance, and misery. In the next part of verse speaks to Judgement Day as a specific day in time; "that that day should overtake you as a thief." And, when that day comes it will surprise everyone like a thief in the night.
