Genesis 4:8-10
"8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground."
Did you know that GOD cautioned Cain to not kill his brother? It's there in yesterday's verses, God teaches Cain valuable lessons. "if thou doest not well, SIN lieth at the door." In the original Hebrew, the word for "lieth" has the connotation predator crouching, ready to pounce on its prey. The next few words remind us of God's declaration of Eve's punishment after eating the forbidden fruit. While there comes considerable baggage with this metaphor. It is a very VIVID picture of the sinner becoming wedded to their SIN. SIN is having a hold on the sinner.
We think that Cain should listen to this WARNING from GOD. But Cain attempted to please God in his OWN WAY. Cain showed a proud and withholding heart. His offering was rejected by God. Now, counciling from GOD doesn't help him! Today's verses; "And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and SLEW HIM. And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy BROTHER'S BLOOD CRIETH unto me from the ground." It's like Cain could not help himself. He had to go against GOD at every turn. GOD knows what happened, He is giving Cain ANOTHER opportunity to REPENT and ask for forgiveness.
