wailing and scorn

Luke 8:51-53
"53 And when He came into the house, He suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.
52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but He said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
53 And they laughed Him to scorn, knowing that she was dead."

Jairus, a leader in the synagogue, has risked his reputation and livelihood reaching out to Jesus for help. He hoped that Jesus could heal his 12-year-old daughter, who was on her death bed. On the way here they stopped to help another woman. Then they received word that Jairus's daughter has died. Jesus told Jairus; "...Fear not: BELIEVE ONLY, and she shall be made whole." 

Now they have arrived at Jairus's home, Jesus "...suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all WEPT, and BEWAILED her: but He said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed Him to SCORN, knowing that SHE was DEAD." The family and friends that have gathered at Jairus's home do NOT respect Jesus and are very belligerent. They know that Jairus's daughter is dead. They don't know that Jesus is GOD!

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
