Esther 4:11
"11 All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days."
Mordecai's mortal enemy is Haman, the king’s evil second-in-command, and a descendant of historic enemies of God’s people. Haman has influenced the King to pass a law calling for the death of all Jewish people! (The King doesn't know his queen is Jewish.) This whole situation has Mordecai upset and causing a scene. This has Esther concerned for her cousin and worried the King and others will find out her secret! Esther can't go to Mordecai, so she sends her faithful servant Hatach. Mordecai is saying "Esther, you're OUR ONLY HOPE!" Mordecai gives all the gory details to Hatach. Who then relayed the message to Esther.
In today's verse Esther is replying to Mordecai through Hatach; "All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is NOT CALLED, there is one law of his to PUT him TO DEATH, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these THIRTY DAYS."
Esther is fearful. She is stuck in a dangerous place. Mordecai is asking her to talk to the King. If she tries approaching the King uninvited she could be killed! If she does nothing Mordecai and her Jewish family will be killed. If Haman catches Hatach delivering secret messages between Esther and Mordecai they could all be dead also. They are desperate and in what looks like a lose-lose situation...
