John 4:9&10
"9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto Him, How is it that Thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

For this event Jesus and His Disciples were traveling through Samaria. A place all other Jewish people avoided. And, even more shocking that a Rabbi would be alone with a Samaritan woman, AND talk to her! Jesus is NOT AFRAID to shock or offend others. He asked her to give Him a drink.

People are prejudice then and now. This event shows the radical nature of the Gospel. Jesus is saying I love ALL of you. The Jews used the expression "LIVING WATER" to denote springs, fountains, or running streams. The opposite of dead and stagnant water. Jesus is contrasting His doctrine, His grace with the impure and DEAD notions of the Jews AND the Samaritans. The woman at the well doesn't understand, yet...
