Genesis 3:4-6
"4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."
We started with "The Mother of All;" Eve! As we study Women of Faith! In the beginning GOD created everything and Adam and Eve. And, everything was perfect until chapter three. Then the serpent enters the stage. The serpent was "SUBTIL," implying
a lot more than just "cunning." Along with that comes artifice, craft with an inclination toward deceit, slyness, and trickery. This little snake has great skill in concealing his EVIL purposes.
In today's verses the serpent does his deed, raising doubt about what GOD really said; "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." With a little tease, the promise is made of something more than what you already have. Something better that you feel has been withheld from you. As the verse continues we can hear Eve and Adam convincing themselves that eating the forbidden fruit is the thing they want to do; "And when the woman saw that the tree was GOOD for food, and that it was PLEASANT to the eyes, and a tree to be DESIRED to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and DID EAT, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he DID EAT." With this action we have the fall of humanity. We all are like this first couple, seeing what appears inviting to our eyes and our mind. We believe there is something for us to gain and WE BITE!
