Ruth 1:16&17
"16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me."
In our study focused on Women of Faith in the Holy Scriptures, we have turned to the book of Ruth. These events take place after Joshua lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, and before the rule of the first King Sal. Israel was lead by people called Judges. The results were occasionally good, and must often not so good. This was a time of widespread idolatry. There were all kinds of pegan gods being worshiped in the land. It was very bad for everyone.
Things were SO bad in Israel at this time it caused a faithful woman, NAOMI, her husband and two sons to flee their hometown; Bethlehem. Escaping famine and a culture in turmoil they made a life for themselves in the land of Moab. While there the sons married. In time Naomi's husband died. Next, tragedy strikes and Naomi's sons died. Naomi was left with her two daughters in law. This is a picture of major life DISRUPTION. For Naomi all is lost. She doesn't want the two young ladies to suffer any further. Naomi tells them to go and find new husband's among their people.
And, Ruth replied with today's inspiring verses; "And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I WILL GO; and where thou lodgest, I WILL LODGE: thy people shall be my people, and thy God MY GOD: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me."
MIC DROP. You can't find a more faithful expression than this.
