Genesis 3:14-16
"14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."
Everything has CHANGED.
It was perfect. The treacherous serpent gave Adam and Eve the idea they would have some kind of benefit from eating the forbidden fruit. After this monumental snack they knew they did wrong and they HID from GOD. GOD played along and acted like He didn't know where they were or what they did.
In today's verses GOD sets the record straight; "And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art CURSED above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel." As the instigator and tempter, the serpent received a threefold punishment. The "enmity" is read as a early prophecy of Jesus Christ! "it shall bruise thy head," is The Messiah's victory over Satan. Christ rescues souls out of Satan's hands. By Jesus's death He gave a fatal blow to the devil's kingdom, a wound to the head of this serpent that cannot be healed. And, "and thou shalt bruise His heel." Is Satan's effect on Christ's sufferings and the continued sufferings of the saints for His name. The devil tempts them, persecutes and slays them; and so bruises the heel of Christ, who is afflicted in their afflictions. But, the ultimate victory is given to the Son of God.
GOD continues; "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy SORROW and thy conception; in SORROW thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee." As lasting proof of our fallen condition, human birth is more challenging and painful than other creatures experience in reproduction. "SORROW" is multiplied. Suffering, disappointment, regret are all words that characterize that "SORROW." They are all too familiar to the human condition. And, are a direct result from that fateful BITE into the forbidden fruit.
