1 Corinthians 10:16&17
"16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread."
Jesus instituted Holy Communion at the Last Supper, on the night in which He was betrayed. The Disciples were horrified and traumatized by the events that followed. Their teacher and friend gave His ALL on the cross. They did not understand His sacrifice was for the sins of the world. Jesus promised they would be in Heaven with Him. It's your promise too! Like the Disciples we don't have to understand what is happening. We just have to have faith in our Lord and Savior!
By the time the Apostle Paul writes to the Corinthians, they understand a lot more. Today's verses communicate their understanding very well; "The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the COMMUNION of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the COMMUNION of the body of Christ? For we being many are ONE bread, and ONE body: for we are all partakers of that ONE bread." This is God's Covenant with His believers, through the bread and the wine we are brought together as ONE! Unified by our Lord and Savior and His sacrifice for all our sins! Now and forever, AMEN!
