John 13:9-11
"9 Simon Peter saith unto Him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For he knew who should betray Him; therefore said He, Ye are not all clean."
We are Experiencing GOD in the pages of the Gospel of John, chapter thirteen, when Jesus has gathered together His Disciples for the feast of the passover. Jesus KNOWS He will soon be crucified. Our Lord and Savior, the Creator of the Universe, got on His hands and knees and washs the dusty and tired feet of His friends.
The Apostle Peter protested, this is NOT the way the world works. If anything, the students should be washing the Master's feet! Jesus was strong in His response to Peter. I perceive that there is a principle here; we need to let Jesus wash us. If we don't we will not be in His Kingdom for all eternity. We want to be washed by Jesus. We want to be baptized. We want to confess our sins. We want to partake in Holy Communion. If we can do something to bring us closer to Jesus; we need to do it!
In today's verses it is made clear that Jesus not only washed the feet of His friends, but also His betrayer! "...but not all. For he knew who should betray Him; therefore said He, Ye are NOT ALL CLEAN." Jesus blesses and cares for us ALL. Most of us would have trouble washing the feet of our friends. Could you wash the feet of the man who you knew was betraying you?
