Acts 9:16-19
"16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for My name's sake.
17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus."
GOD called Saul who the Apostles and the rest of the Jesus followers FEARED because he was hunting Christians. When on his way to Damascus Jesus stopped Saul in his tracks, blinded him by light and made to cower on the ground. Saul fears the worst. Jesus gives him directions to go into nearby Damascus. He was blind and had to be lead by the hand. There he sat for three days not eating or drinking. No sight, wondering what will become of him. The hunter was caught and helpless.
As all that was happening, GOD reached out to a disciple at Damascus, named Ananias. GOD gave directions to go find Saul and give him back his sight. Ananias PUSHED back; "No way! Saul, is one BAD MAN, we don't want him in our group." And, GOD is saying listen to Me, I have a plan.
In today's verses, Ananias OBEYS God; "For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for My name's sake. And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be FILLED with the HOLY GHOST. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was BAPTIZED. And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus."
Of course Saul becomes The Apostle Paul, who was the most prolific writer of the New Testament, and his travels took him all over the Mediterranean. His background was of Jewish descent, and yet he was a Roman citizen. The story of Paul is a story of redemption in Jesus Christ and a testimony that NO ONE is beyond the saving grace of the Lord.
