Acts 2:3&4
"3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
"tongues like as of fire"
This is a lot like the account Elijah gives in First Kings! First there was wind! Next fire? God's presence can be overwhelming. Elijah experienced GOD as "...a still small voice." And, GOD asked Elijah "What doest thou here?"
Elijah was hiding in a cave. The Disciples are hiding in a room, God chases them down there. "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Many people at this time followed Jesus because they saw the signs and wonders He performed. People came from far and wide for healing. Even so, many did not believe that He was the Son of God. They did not have faith. Once He was crucified and rose from the grave more came to faith but some still did not believe. The signs and wonders continue with the Disciples. Even so, not everyone believes.
Many people want to pull the sheet over their heads. They don't want to face the world much less GOD. People fear the fire, earthquakes and wind. Even though GOD doesn't seek us that way anymore. Today GOD speaks to us through the pages of Holy Scripture! We can meet Him there! All we need to do is READ!!!
