Matthew 11:4&5
"4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."
John the Baptist is the GREATEST prophet.
He was BOLD and BRASH when dealing with the Sadducees and Pharisees. And, with King Herod, which landed him in prison. It was while he was in prison that he may have had some doubts. John sent two of his people to Jesus to ask Him if He was the Messiah??? From our perspective it doesn't make sense. This was the one thing John was the most sure of. Was prison messing with his mind? Is he trying to spark some response from Jesus that will help his situation?
In today's verses we read Jesus's answer; "Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them." All of these examples are fulfilment of prophecy! John knew this, hearing about them will remind him. And, it will move him to know "the poor" are a special focus for Jesus's ministry.
The poor are invited to the kingdom, and told of His peace and their pardon. Such were the apostles of Christ; they were poor, they were mainly fishermen; they were unlearned men, they had no formal learning, and were contemptible, in the sight of men like the Sadducees and Pharisees. In fact they were despised, and reckoned as cursed by them. But, not by our Lord and Savior!!!
