Matthew 1:20
"But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost."

Jesus Christ will be born of His Mother JUST LIKE every other human being. UNLIKE us though His Father was not another human being! His human father, Joseph, had to come to grips with this and will be the focus of our devotionals this week.

A "Virgin" pregnant?!?! This kind of thing would happen but NEVER to a "Virgin." Eyebrows were raised, Mary's family, friends and fiance had questions! The stress of this situation is OFF the charts. But, still Joseph LOVES Mary. He was NOT out for justice. He was kind, tender, and merciful. He loved Mary and was not willing to expose her to public shame and humiliation.

In today's verse Joseph gets answers; "But while he thought on these things, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is OF THE Holy Ghost." Joseph had come to the only conclusion any wise man could in his circumstances. But, GOD takes care of Joseph so that Joseph can take care of Mary and the baby Jesus. Joseph had kept this matter to himself and now GOD reaches out to him in a divine communication; a dream! Revealing to him that Mary's pregnancy is indeed miraculous. The child she carries in her womb is of divine origin! What blessed news this was to Joseph. AND! What incredible news this is to a world cloaked in darkness; the Light will soon be born!

God’s patience

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God did not immediately punish King Solomon when he allowed his foreign wives to build altars for false gods. Despite multiple compromises, God remained patient. Over time, Solomon’s endorsement of idolatry defied God’s covenant, leading to divine judgment, including the loss of the kingdom for his son. Some mistake God’s patience for indifference or inaction, but He follows His plan in His timing. If our nation, culture, church, or we ourselves stray like Solomon, we can repent and return to God’s path. And, should do so sooner than later! Amen!
