Luke 2:4-7
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn."
GOD spoke to Joseph in a dream; Mary's pregnancy was miraculous, instructed him to name the baby Jesus! Giving Joseph the mission of raising the Messiah!!! The Gospel of Matthew explains the importance of His name "EMMANUEL" which literally means "God with us." In this incarnation divine nature is united with the human nature. For the Holy family it became their everyday.
Our verses this week fall between the dream and the raising of Jesus. On the very birth of our Lord and Savior which we celebrate every year on Christmas! We like to decorate with bright and shiny lights, bright colors and if we can loud music. It is good for us to recall that it was NOT like that at Jesus's birth. It was the opposite; it happened in a little town that was unknown "Bethlehem." "And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a MANGER; because there was NO ROOM for them in the inn." In fact not only was there no celebration, but there was "NO ROOM" for Him!?! A time and a place that has "NO ROOM" for Jesus is a world that needs Him desperately.
