Luke 2:8-10
"8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people."
His name "EMMANUEL" which literally means "God with us." In this incarnation divine nature is united with the human nature. For the Holy family it became their everyday. Leading up to the birth in a little town that was unknown "Bethlehem." There was no celebration, and there was "NO ROOM" for Him! The world desperately needed a SAVIOR; the Jewish homeland was occupied by a hostile foreign super power. They were looking for a warrior to lead them in battle for freedom. Into this situation a helpless baby was born.
At this time, the BIG announcement did not come to a palace where a king resided, or to temple where a priest preached. Instead the BIG announcement came to some lowly laborers on the graveyard shift out in a field in the middle of NOWHERE!?!? Today's verses; "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and THE GLORY of the LORD shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of GREAT JOY, which shall be to ALL PEOPLE." What are people thinking? What are their expectations? Do we still think this way? Do we understand?
