John 1:4&5
"4 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
We studied the coming of Christ throughout the Advent season. Now, Christmas is here; we want to try to understand the incarnation of our Lord and Savior. We have returned to the Gospel of John were we read words that echo the first words of the Old Testament. When John wrote "In the beginning was the Word," he wants us to think of Genesis and Moses. He wants us to really understand that Jesus is the second person of the Holy Trinity, the Creator of the Universe! And, this is ALL GOD'S PLAN for our redemption.
Life is irrepressible. The life of the soul, the life of the spirit; life in the present, life in communion with God; life in the future, life in eternity. Today's verses; "In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." The meaning of "comprehended" is not; “knew not.” Rather the idea is that darkness did not take a hold of the light. Or, darkness did not become light. We might think of it as darkness rejecting the Light. We are familiar with it being BAD wants nothing to do with GOOD. As we enter the new year, it would be good if we kept this in mind.
